Its finally happening!
The day that I started my business (Blue Springs, Missouri family photographer), I never imagined it would have gone as far as it has. Sure, I had huge dreams and wanted to be well known in my area or just in any area for what I do, but I never thought it could actually happen. The first time I picked up my camera, I immediately started capturing anything and everything that was around me. In fact, it was the holiday season when I bought my first DSLR and so it was pretty chilly outside. This left me to capture whatever I could indoors, my first subject were Christmas ornaments! Yes, thats right haha Christmas ornaments. I was so intrigued and honestly very intimidated by the amount of knowledge that I was needing to learn in order to properly use this gorgeous camera. This takes me to my next destination! Kansas City Union Station.
Anyone who lives in Kansas City, knows that Union Station is without a doubt one of the must see's during the holiday season. So I got my kiddo dressed up cute, grabbed my DSLR and my little 50 mm prime lens and headed on downtown. This is where I fell in love and became even more hungry to learn and its all history from here!
Im am a self taught professional photographer (Kansas City family photographer), that has been striking to learn even more ever since. It took me awhile to find "my" style, but I knew once I did it would help define who "I " was as a photographer. If you take a look at my portfolio, you'll notice that I love bold colorful portraits. To me, the world is too beautiful to take color out of portraits. I say, bring it on! I feel like in some ways it does set me apart from many other photographers which im completely ok with. It's nothing to do with their style because I think so many styles are gorgeous, but for me, color is my jam.
A few years ago, my husband so graciously offered to help me expand the sessions that I was able to offer. We had an above garage attic area that was just empty space. This space was going to become MY space. He worked hard on it from floor to ceiling, and created a gorgeous studio space for me to start my journey with newborns.
Newborns...... wow, this was another can of worms. Newborns are so fragile and delicate and very intimidating at first. Taking portraits for a family of their biggest pride and joy seems like such a joy and dont get me wrong, it is BUT when youre just starting out, its very stressful. Lots of "What if baby doesn't cooperate? What if mom and dad don't like the images? What if I cant get what I want from the session?" and the list goes on and on. Because of this I made a promise to myself and to my clients that I wouldn't touch a newborn until I had proper training on both newborn safety and posing. I feel like every photographer going into newborns should do the same. This was one of the best decisions I made for myself. This made my very first newborn sessions such a wonderful experience not only for myself, but for my clients as well.
I've had a ton of newborns now (Kansas City Baby Photographer), and it has become a huge passion of mine. To me, its the love of the challenge with instant reward. Seeing these gorgeous portraits that I create for my clients is such an amazing feeling. Knowing that I just captured their biggest pride and joy in a way that they will be able to look back and remember just how tiny and perfect their kiddos were at such a delicate age. Seriously, the best feeling ever.
NOW, here is for the BIG news. I have been working in my cute and cozy studio for over 2 years now and I have grown out of that space very fast. I want to be able to provide a top notch experience for all of my families bringing in their littles, as well as other sessions (family, milestones, maternity etc.). SO, this gorgeous space in Liberty, Missouri Square opened up and just seems like the perfect next step for my business. Here I will be able to provide all of my clients a gorgeous larger space, with enough room for larger families. I will be able to not only offer studio lit portraits, but natural light portraits as well. I have SO many ideas brewing in my head and I cant wait to put those to work. So many good things will come from this huge step in my business and I cant wait to involve all of my amazing clients and share this excitement with you all.
Ok, ok, long blog post is almost over haha.
June cant come fast enough! Please be on the lookout for a possible grand opening! With COVID, it might be limited or even done virtually, but I couldn't be more proud of the new space. Its truly a dream come true.
